Map your applications

Set up the Application perspective by creating application tags and assigning hosts and services to them.

The Application perspective groups services by the application they belong to. It has nothing to show until at least one application tag exists, so opening it with none starts a setup that creates them.

Create application tags

  1. Open a site's topology and choose Application in the perspective menu.
  2. Add at least one application tag. Pick from the suggested tags, convert a tag you already use, or create your own. Each tag becomes one application.
  3. Click Next.

To leave without creating one, choose another perspective from the menu. The setup opens again the next time you choose Application.

Assign hosts and services

  1. Assign each host to its application. Every service on a host inherits the host's application.
  2. For a service on a shared host that belongs to a different application, tag that service directly. Its own tag overrides the host's. See Application tags.
  3. Click Complete Setup.

Services in no application appear in an Ungrouped container.

Connect services with dependencies

Dependencies are the connections between services in this perspective. To record how requests flow between an application's services, create a dependency from a selection.

Change applications later

Application tags are ordinary tags in the Application tag group. Rename, add or delete them under Platform > Tags, and change a host's or service's application by editing its tags.
